Pet Listing Rules
Yer.pet exists to help pets and people find one another through responsible, local rehoming. It is not a marketplace for commercial animal sales.
These rules apply to all listings on Yer.pet, including listings from people rehoming a pet and people looking for a pet.
By posting a listing, you agree to follow these rules and Yer.pet’s Terms of Use.
Be Honest About the Animal
Provide information that is truthful and accurate to the best of your knowledge.
Do not knowingly misrepresent or conceal important information about an animal, including its:
- Age
- Sex
- Health
- Vaccination status
- Spay or neuter status
- Temperament
- Behavior
- Special needs
- Ownership or history
Known biting, serious aggression, escape behavior, or other behavior that could reasonably affect the safety or suitability of a new home must not be knowingly concealed.
You do not need to know every detail about an animal. If something is unknown, it is better to say “unknown” than to guess.
Only List Animals You Have the Right to Rehome
You may only offer an animal for rehoming if you own the animal or otherwise have the legal authority to arrange its rehoming.
Do not list:
- Stolen animals
- Lost or found animals as though they belong to you
- Animals involved in an ownership dispute
- Animals you do not have permission to rehome
Do not list an animal if its possession, transfer, or rehoming would violate applicable federal, state, or local law.
You are responsible for knowing and following laws that apply to the animal where you live.
Rehoming Fees — Maximum $50
A rehoming fee is optional. Yer.pet does not require one.
If you choose to request a fee, the maximum permitted rehoming fee is $50.
A modest fee can help discourage some impulsive or inappropriate inquiries without turning the rehoming into a commercial sale.
Yer.pet is built for rehoming animals, not selling them for profit. The $50 limit helps maintain that distinction.
Listings primarily intended for commercial animal sales, breeding, brokering, resale, or profit are not permitted and may be rejected or removed regardless of the fee stated.
The $50 limit may not be avoided through required deposits, mandatory purchases, “donations,” transportation charges, or separate fees connected to receiving the animal.
Never Send Money in Advance
Do not send deposits, reservation fees, transportation fees, shipping fees, or other advance payments to another Yer.pet user.
If a permitted rehoming fee is requested, it should be handled when the parties meet and the animal is actually transferred.
If someone pressures you to send money before meeting them and seeing the animal, do not proceed.
Yer.pet does not process, hold, guarantee, or provide escrow services for payments between users.
No Commercial Animal Sales
Yer.pet is not intended for:
- Breeders selling animals
- Dealers or brokers
- Commercial pet sales
- Litters being sold for profit
- Animal resale businesses
- Businesses acquiring animals for resale
A person occasionally needing to responsibly rehome their own pet is very different from using Yer.pet as an animal-sales platform.
Commercial activity may result in listings being rejected or removed and accounts being restricted or suspended.
“Looking for a Pet” Listings Have Rules Too
Listings from people seeking an animal must also be made in good faith.
You may not use Yer.pet to seek or obtain animals for:
- Resale
- Commercial breeding
- Animal fighting
- Baiting
- Exploitation
- Fraud
- Illegal activity
- Any purpose likely to cause unnecessary harm to an animal
Yer.pet may remove a “looking for a pet” listing that appears inconsistent with responsible rehoming or animal welfare.
Use Clear and Appropriate Photos
When possible, include recent photographs that clearly show the actual animal being rehomed.
Do not intentionally use misleading photographs or images of another animal in a way that misrepresents the listing.
Do not post photographs or other material you do not have the right to use.
Protect Personal Information
Do not place sensitive personal information in a public listing.
Avoid posting things such as:
- Your full street address
- Financial information
- Passwords
- Social Security numbers
- Copies of identification
- Other unnecessary sensitive information
A city, ZIP code, or general area is usually enough to help people determine whether a listing is local.
Meet Safely
Use reasonable care when communicating with and meeting people you do not know.
Yer.pet cannot verify every person you may interact with. You are responsible for using reasonable care to protect your own safety whenever communicating, meeting, or making arrangements with others through the site.
When practical:
- Meet in a safe location appropriate for the animal
- Bring another person
- Tell someone where you are going
- Avoid unnecessary disclosure of personal information
- Take your time before agreeing to a rehoming
Neither party is required to complete a rehoming.
If something does not feel right, do not proceed.

Put the Animal First
A successful rehoming is not simply about transferring an animal as quickly as possible.
People rehoming pets should make a reasonable effort to determine whether a potential new home appears appropriate.
People seeking pets should ask questions and consider whether they can realistically provide the care that particular animal needs.
Important topics may include:
- Temperament
- Medical history
- Vaccinations
- Behavior around children
- Behavior around other animals
- Food and routine
- Medications
- Housing needs
- Exercise requirements
- Special care needs
Sometimes the responsible decision is to say no and keep looking.
There is a living animal at the center of every rehoming.
Prohibited Listings and Activity
Yer.pet may request changes to, reject, hide, or remove listings or accounts involving:
- Commercial animal sales
- Breeding or brokering
- Fees above $50
- Attempts to evade the fee limit
- Fraud or scams
- Stolen animals
- Misleading or intentionally false information
- Animal fighting
- Bait animals
- Cruelty or exploitation
- Illegal wildlife or prohibited animal transfers
- Harassment or threats
- Spam or unrelated commercial advertising
- Content that infringes another person’s rights
- Activity that violates applicable law
- Activity that reasonably creates an unnecessary risk to people or animals
This list is not exhaustive.
Yer.pet may take reasonable moderation action when a listing or account appears inconsistent with the purpose or safety of the platform.
Reporting a Listing
If you see a listing that appears suspicious, misleading, unsafe, prohibited, or inconsistent with these rules, use the Report option on the listing.
If you cannot use the Report option or need to provide additional information, you may also contact Yer.pet.
Reports may be reviewed by Yer.pet, but submitting a report does not guarantee a particular outcome.
For immediate threats, suspected animal cruelty, theft, abuse, or other potentially criminal activity, contact the appropriate local authorities rather than relying solely on Yer.pet.
Moderation
New listings may be reviewed before appearing publicly.
Yer.pet may:
- Approve a listing
- Ask the owner to make changes
- Return a listing for correction
- Reject a listing
- Hide or remove a listing
- Restrict or suspend an account
Moderation decisions are based on the information reasonably available to Yer.pet at the time.
Approval of a listing does not mean Yer.pet has independently verified or endorsed the user, the animal, or the information in the listing.
Above All, Be Decent
Yer.pet is here to help animals find appropriate homes.
Be truthful.
Be respectful.
Do not pressure people.
Do not exploit animals.
Do not use the site to make a quick profit.
Do not waste another person’s time with dishonest or unserious inquiries.
And remember that there is a living animal at the center of every rehoming.
If you would not want someone treating your own pet that way, don’t do it here.
